Back to Preschool!

I don’t know about you all but summer here has just flown by! I’m not sure how it’s almost the end of September! When the chance came up to do some back to school sewing, I decided to whip up a few new items for my preschooler who just turned 4 last week. It was fun to sew him some things now that he’s old enough to provide me with some input.

I started with one of my favorite patterns, the Peek a Boo Pattern Shop Boardwalk. It’s such a fast sew with some fun opportunities for color blocking. I used the Club airplane fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. I love their club line and they’ve recently come out with some more awesome boy prints! I used red cotton lycra from Peek a Boo for the top of my tee.

Since it’s getting cold here so very quickly, I also made a long sleeved Semper Sweater from Sofilantjes. The Semper is one of my all time favorites for my boys. They love the side pockets, and I love the quick sew with no hemming! “Lell-o” is my little guy’s favorite color, so when I saw these stars show up at PAB, I knew I needed to incorporate them.

I used Thread and Grain’s Old School cut file to add some personalization to the front of the sweater. My kids have no idea what an old school Nintendo controller looks like, but I think it’s so fun! My boy loved pretending to push the buttons on the controller 🙂

Now to go with his two new shirts, my little man needed some pants! I used Gracious Threads’ Everest Pants along with a denim from Joanns for a comfy pair of “pocket pants” as my 4 year old calls them. I love love love all the details Jess includes in her patterns. I got a lot of practice topstitching, but the final result is totally worth it.

What back to school outfit would be complete without a crayon pouch? Hubert’s Rocket Pouch from Filles a Maman was the perfect accessory. D was so excited when he realized there were crayons in his zipper pouch!

We live in North Dakota where fall appears far too early! When Jess from Gracious Threads released her softshell coat, I knew it was what D needed to wear on those chilly fall mornings. I had never sewn with softshell before, but it is so much easier to work with than I expected!

This jacket has quickly become a favorite for my little man and all his preschool teachers. It looks so professional and will definitely be warm on our chilly fall mornings.

Thanks for joining me on the Back to School tour! Make sure you check out the other stops and come back on Friday to see all the outfits Genie made!
