Blaverry: Nina and Ollie

I love trying new things, don’t you? Today I am going to share a new-to-me pattern company, Blaverry. Christie Archer has excellent designs that appeal particularly to the fashion needs of tweens and their moms who want to sew for them. I recommend getting to know more about Christie, the force behind Blaverry, here.

Nina and Ollie Full View

The Ollie top and Nina skirt are Blaverry patterns that have been reformatted and updated. The patterns come in a wide size range (2T-16y) which is nice since my older daughters are approaching sizing out some of my other go-to companies that end at 10 or 12. The patterns feature layers which make it very easy for me to print only the sizes I need  to save me precious ink, and keep me from going cross-eyed while blending. Blaverry patterns also feature some neat little upgrades such as a cute printable measurement chart to keep track of my growing girls, and detailed instructions for blending. As with many PDF pattern designers, excellent customer service support is available via e-mail and in the Blaverry Facebook Group.

Why do I love the Ollie and Nina? The Ollie top is a very classic sew that can be styled many different ways. I used Riley Blake white floral knit for my print and red solid cotton lycra for my collar and my skirt. I wanted to create a vintage summer look for my daughter to wear during our long and hot summer days.

The Ollie top features either a dainty pointed collar (featured) or a mock turtleneck. The armholes are finished with invisible binding, and I love the adorable hook-and-eye closure in the back that allows the neckline to be fashionably fitted.

The Nina skirt is meant to hit above the knee, but you may lengthen or shorten to your taste. The waistband has a unique finish that conceals the elasticized waist for a more fashionable fit. The skirt is a bit longer in the back than in the front so it hangs nice and evenly all around. Both the Ollie and Nina are quick to print, tape, cut, and sew. I sew with four little interruptions and I completed this look in under 3 hours. I am sure my next set will be quicker as I am now familiar with the steps and have my pieces ready to go.

I had a lot of fun giving my first Blaverry patterns a try, and have several more on my wish list such as the Emily Ann cardigan which is a great way to complete this look. Which Blaverry patterns would you like to try?
