Fall is in the air where I live. It is still warm during the day but the nights are crisp and the apples are falling off of our tree. I find myself still wanting to dress cool for the day, but then needing layers for temperature changes. Keeping that in mind, I decided to sign up to test the Canyon Cardigan as one of members of Love Notions Promo Team. Testing with the Love Notions crew is always so fun! There is so much style in this friendly group.
The Canyon Cardigan is a stylish layering piece that has 3 skirt finishes (straight, gathered, and waterfall) and 3 sleeve options (vest, 3/4, and long). There are also optional pockets and elbow patches to mix up the look!
I went a little outside of my comfort zone with mine. I had been hoarding this Riley Blake knit that I picked up from the Fabric Fairy. I was going to make a simple tank dress out of it or a skirt, but I didn’t realize when I purchased it that the print runs vertical to the selvage. I had assumed it was horizontal, and I can’t handle not matching my stripes and I didn’t have enough yardage to match them. This pattern solved the dilemma for me, and I still have enough leftover to make a dress bodice or two for my girls.
Since this print is bolder than one I would usually choose, I decided to be a bit bolder with my styling as well. I paired my View C Waterfall option cardigan with a Little Black Dress and nude sandals. DH and I are taking a little trip to a beach-y destination by ourselves soon and I wanted something bold and fun to wear and stay cool as we go from the beach to dinner.
There are many fabric choices for this style of cardigan. I keep a rather large cotton lycra stash since cotton lycra prints are easy to wash, sew, and wear because of the excellent recovery. While drapier fabrics work best for this pattern, I am thrilled with how mine turned out. It is recommended to leave the waterfall option unhemmed, but I hemmed just the bottom edge so the knit wouldn’t curl up along the edges. This was the perfect finish for my Canyon Cardigan! Make sure you grab it now at the sale price through Thursday (9/01/16) for only $6!

I have been loving getting to sew little girl outfits after sewing for 4 boys…
