Hip Hop Tank Tour

Welcome to our stop on the Love Notions Hip Hop Blog Tour! Genie and Alisha have two versions of the Hip Hop Tank to share with you today.

I (Alisha) chose to make the Hip Hop tank with sleeves. Fall is rapidly approaching in North Dakota, and I knew I wouldn’t get as much wear out of a sleeveless shirt. While digging through my fabric stash, I found this coral colored lace I had been hoarding from Hobby Lobby. I decided to layer it over a gray cotton lycra. I made a couple modifications to my shirt. First I lengthened it by 2 inches. I’m about 4″ taller than the height Tami drafts for and I find that adding a bit of length just makes everything fit better. I also prefer my shirts on the longer side. I also widened the neckband to add a bit more of the gray around the neck. Continue Reading

The Muttonchop! Duchess and Hare Blog Tour & Giveaway

I’m so happy to be part of Duchess and Hare’s first blog tour. Please see the post schedule below and be sure to visit the other participants! The prizes are 5 Duchess and Hare Patterns and a $25 gift certificate to Threads and Stitches Fabric…may the odds be ever in your favor!

Duchess and Hare are a new-to-me pattern company featuring vintage-inspired patterns with a modern fit. We were given our choice of pattern to sew up from the shop, and I decided to sew a Muttonchop Dress with a short sleeve. It took me a while to figure out the name; the long-sleeved version of this cute top or dress has a fitted bottom with the flared shoulder, giving it the look of a (say it with me now)…Muttonchop! Easing into Motherhood: One Stitch at a Time

I feel that I could write a chapter on the influence of sewing and motherhood on my life. I hope I can do this topic justice in one blog post.

I’m honored to have been invited to contribute to the #EaseIntoMotherhood series hosted by Jodi, Erin, and Monserrat. Here is a collection of my thoughts as a mother who sews.

The following testimonial will include the role sewing has played in enhancing my personal life and happiness over the past ten years. It does not include the tremendous support I have received from my husband, our extended families, our faith, and our community in my parenting journey.  Continue Reading

Sew Caroline Weekend Style: A Blog Tour

Wow! Our little blog is hopping this week! Today is my turn on the Sew Caroline Weekend Style Book Blog Tour!

A couple months ago the fabulous Caroline Hulse of Sew Caroline invited me to participate in her Weekend Style blog tour! Of course I agreed! I had already received my pre-ordered book and fallen in love with the projects! The book is just beautiful to spend an afternoon reading through and planning. Within a few hours of receiving my copy I had my first pattern printed, taped, and sewn. Continue Reading

Cool, Fun, and Flirty: The Laela Jeyne Summer Collection

I am so excited to be a stop on the Laela Jeyne Summer Collection Patterns Tour! I first started using Laela Jeyne Patterns for myself last fall. Some of the items I have made from Laela Jeyne Patterns have been my most worn items in our closets! Even though this summer has been super busy for us, I could not resist signing up to share about some of the new patterns!

My new favorite top is the Dahlia Tank Top. It looks like a simple tank, but it is hands-down the best tank top I have made for myself. It is fitted, but not too fitted, and includes pattern pieces for different cup sizes! This is HUGE for me. I can print just my size and cup size pieces and get a tank that fits perfectly on the first try! I sewed a size Large B-Cup. (Sewing note: sewing cup sizes are different than bra cup sizes – make sure you measure and go by the chart!) I love sewing clothing for myself from my large stash of cotton lycra knits. My tank is made with 1/4″ knit stripe by Riley Blake Designs. You can grab some here! Continue Reading

The Swimsuit Edition: Maternity Style

Welcome to The Swimsuit Edition Tour hosted by Lulu and Celeste and Sprouting Jube Jube Productions!  I LOVE sewing swimsuits and today I’m sharing something that I made for myself for a change!  My daughter’s swimsuits were finished last month, and so this month I decided it was time to attempt something totally different – a maternity swimsuit! I knew when I saw this striped pineapple swim fabric from Peekaboo Fabric Shop that it would be perfect for something for me – although I totally should have ordered more because my daughter fell in love with it after she saw my swimsuit and it looks like it is currently sold out already! Sew Americana

Today I’m excited to be kicking off the week with my contribution to the Sew Americana Blog Tour hosted by Katy at Wild and Wanderful!  The 4th of July is always a festive occasion around here and this year is no exception. In addition to an outfit for my little miss,  I decided to get in on the fun and make a patriotic top for myself… and share a little announcement!

That’s right! This little lady is super excited to be a big sister again!  She has been carefully saving her mommy-made dresses for years in hopes of someday having a little sister to pass them on to.  And, at the rate she has been growing, the collection of dresses she has quickly outgrown has been increasing faster than we expected!  Who knew kids could grow so fast?  Continue Reading

In Blue: Feminine, Fun, and Floral

You have probably heard me mention this before on the blog: Katarina Roccella’s Skopelos line was the line that drew me to the fabulous Art Gallery Fabrics. I think every AGF fan has a particular collection that spoke to them….. and then made them obsessed.

But this post is about beautiful In Blue fabrics. I’m linking up with several other talented bloggers to showcase this beautiful blue-themed collection in a blog tour hosted by Cassy from Pear Berry Lane.  Continue Reading

The Fighter Tee: A Charity Blog Tour

Celebrating the release and blog tour of the Fighter Tee is very special for me. For one reason, it is a pattern designed and written by my friend Kelly of Handmade Boy and drafted by the generous Tami from Love Notions Patterns. For another reason, I have always had great respect for Kelly and the welcoming voice she is in the sewing blog community. Kelly usually has my YES before she even asks. Kelly has asked me to participate in something important – and my yes is resounding. Continue Reading

Bluezette Blog Tour

Love Notions Bluezette is a pattern that I’ve been wanting to try and I’m so excited that I had an excuse to use it! With five skirt options, two bodice choices, and three sleeve lengths, there are so many ways you can put one together. In fact, I ended up making two, and they are going to get so much use this summer.

The dress is designed for knits, but any of the gathered skirt options will work with lighter, drapey fabric choices, and I knew right away that I wanted to use the amazing Art Gallery Rayon in Swifting Flora Boho I’d been hoarding (it’s so soft, and was a dream to sew). Continue Reading
