Back to School Alternative Style

I’m excited to be a part of the Lulu and Celeste, Sprouting JubeJube Productions Back to School Tour again this year! Please be sure to check out the rest of the posts for the week for all kinds of amazing inspirations. Many of our sponsors are offering discounts, so visit them, too!

**disclaimer**  I was given most of the patterns that I used by our generous sponsors and would like to 1) extend my thanks and 2) note that the opinions are my own here. I was just lucky, I guess, to have an awesome bunch of patterns! Continue Reading

Back to Preschool!

I don’t know about you all but summer here has just flown by! I’m not sure how it’s almost the end of September! When the chance came up to do some back to school sewing, I decided to whip up a few new items for my preschooler who just turned 4 last week. It was fun to sew him some things now that he’s old enough to provide me with some input.

I started with one of my favorite patterns, the Peek a Boo Pattern Shop Boardwalk. It’s such a fast sew with some fun opportunities for color blocking. I used the Club airplane fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. I love their club line and they’ve recently come out with some more awesome boy prints! I used red cotton lycra from Peek a Boo for the top of my tee. Continue Reading

Sofilantjes Litore Tunic and Dress

This week, I’ve been a busy bee with pattern testing and I’m really excited to share my first with you!

This was my first test for Sofilantjes, and I want to take a moment to say how easy Anne was to test for. This pattern was well designed and well written, and she was very responsive to any input, problems, or questions we had as testers.

But now on to the good stuff!

The Litore Tunic and Dress is a classic looking sundress from the front, with a really fun  criss cross strap detail in the back. It is available as a tunic, dress, or maxi with three different hem types; a-line, high/low circle, and handkerchief. The circle and handkerchief options also include pockets, which are so necessary for little girls and their treasures. All three skirts are interchangeable with the Solis Tunic and Dress, too, providing endless summer options! The pattern contains sizes 12 months through 14 years (undeveloped, although alterations aren’t too hard if your girl is within the size ranges), is written in English and Dutch, includes instructions with both pictures and graphics (the pattern is so easy to follow), and trimless pattern pieces in A4 and letter size. It’s on sale for two days only for 5.50 Euros (the exchange rate shows it at $6.12 USD, but that will be subject to change). Continue Reading

Adding Applique to a Knit Shirt {How to Jazz up Your Kid’s Wardrobe}

Hello! Welcome to part 1 of my {How to Jazz up Your Kid’s Wardrobe} series! I’ll be posting periodically this summer and sharing some fun ways I’ve found to add some excitement to my boys’ clothes. My boys love characters from Star Wars to Ninja Turtles to Paw Patrol, but as you may know, finding character knit is expensive! Frankly, it’s out of my budget. Character woven is much more affordable; however, instead of just using it to make shirts like the Classic Oxford from Peekaboo Pattern Shop, I needed to think of ways to add it to the knit shirts my boys love. I love sewing with the solid cotton/lycra knits from Peekaboo Pattern Shop, but my kids get tired of just plain solid shirts. I’ve had to get creative! Continue Reading

Ready for Sunshine with the Sofilantjes Solis Dress and Tunic!

Hey guys!

Have you ever taken a risk on a pattern and been thrilled with the results? We love Sofilantjes patterns in our house, but when I saw the tester previews of the new Solis Dress and Tunic I was a bit worried that this would be a style I wouldn’t be able to make work for my slender girls.

The Solis is an ontrend racerback sundress with two skirt options (pleated tunic or dress length and a circle skirt). It has a lovely and unique racerback style. However, when I go shopping for my daughters and see these styles I immediately know that we will have peekaboo gaping, saggy necklines, and a skirt that is too short. Continue Reading

Introducing the Semper Sweater from Sofilantjes

I was so excited to be chosen for my first test from Sofilantjes. I was chosen to test the Semper Sweater for my oldest son. The Semper Sweater is a unisex knit sweater with a crossover hood or cowl option. The Semper also comes with a fun side pocket option. It’s available in sizes ranging from 12 months to size 14.

I was chosen to test the side pocket option with the crossover hood. Both my 8 and 5 year olds love the side pockets! The crossover hood and raglan sleeves and add an exciting twist to a standard hooded sweatshirt. For my older son’s sweater, I used navy cotton/lycra and kelly green interlock. The weight of the interlock added a nice stability to the hood.  Continue Reading

Sofilantjes Nivalis Dress and Tunic release!

A few weeks ago, I had the realization that some of my old standby patterns were no longer appealing to my oldest child. I started browsing around for the perfect pattern to appeal to her and fell in love with a new design from Sofilantjes.

I sewed up the Hibernis cowl shirt in testing for my oldest daughter. I then made a second one for Middle Miss out of a Riley Blake floral and Art Gallery as accent. Continue Reading

The Hibernis Cowl by Sofilantjes Release Day!

Hello, dear readers, and a belated Happy New Year to you all!

I am back from a break from blogging AND sewing. We went on a family adventure in November to reconnect as a family, and then straight into the Christmas rush, and Christmas travels. While we had a blast, it is nice to settle back into a routine again at home, school, and with my sewing! I have big sewing plans for this spring and I hope to share them with you over the next several weeks. Continue Reading
