The Ella and matching Mama Ella tops have been updated! The top has always been adorable, with a ruffled neckline and low back, accented by a tie, but the new options and fit will make it an essential wardrobe piece! Now, the ruffle is optional, there is a higher back option, and in addition to the tie back, there are options for a plain band and bow back. Finally, there have been hemline additions; the regular top hem, which hits at the hip, a front tie option, and a dress option. The Mama Ella top has been updated to fit Made for Mermaids new, extended sizes. It has also added two hemlines, tie front with curved back and dress length, and a new cross back option
Each pattern will be on sale for $7 (normally $9), or bundle ONLY through Sunday at midnight for $10. This is your only chance for the bundle! If you have already purchased either top, the Made for Mermaids blog will have a post explain how to receive the update at no cost!
I tested the child’s top, available in sizes 1/2 to 14 for my oldest in a size 14.
Since I don’t dare make clothing for her without her input, I selected this white burnout knit and she selected the red for the bands. She also selected the tie front. This is the high back version. I really like the contrast the red adds; it’s such a fun pop of color!
I really like the fit on this for her. She is slightly beyond the max bust measurement, but the relaxed fit of the top along with the knit it’s made of makes for a lot of forgiveness.
It’s a very simple sew, too. Shoulder and side seams, the bands at neck and arms, a hem. The tie front isn’t even hemmed, which makes it go even quicker! Adding these bands is no harder than making bias tape at home, and the directions walk you through it clearly, step by step.
She would love to find a red cami to go under this to really highlight the burnout in the fabric and the red bands.
And who can resist taking a photo of the moody girl’s pout? She was really a trooper; it has been in the 90s here with high humidity, and the bugs were driving her nuts out here in the field.
Make sure to head over to Made for Mermaids and grab your copies of the Ella and Mama Ella during the release sale. The bundle with both patterns for $10 is only available until Sunday at midnight! I have been loving getting to sew little girl outfits after sewing for 4 boys…
