I came across this Pensacola Beach Petal Top by Seaside Notions in a pattern group a few weeks ago and immediately fell in love with it. It’s got that combination of vintage charm and sweet little girl that I just love! It was still chilly up here in Michigan at the time, but I knew this was going to be a spring/summer hit with my little girl, and I had some wovens from Hobby Lobby stashed that I was excited to use for it.

The top is full of great options–I chose the flutter sleeve, and added trim, but there are options for a sleeveless and cap sleeve version, and also for a plain or bias finish to the petals that make up the bottom. I went up a size based on her measurements (as I often do–she grows so fast!), and although she definitely has room to grow, I love that it doesn’t look ill-fitting.

I think the attention to detail is what makes this top great. Each version has very thorough directions, from printing out the pattern, to cutting, to piecing and finishing. I personally love the look of top stitching, and so I chose a contrasting color for my top. My trim was also a little too narrow for insertion per the pattern directions, but the pattern was so well written that it was easy to make the substitution.

All in all, I am very pleased with this pattern and my top, and have plans to make a matching one for my niece (who is thicker than thieves with the daughter pictured here). They are going to be so excited to match! I can see many more of these being made over the years!
