Fat Quarter Skirt and a GIVEAWAY!

Welcome to the Sew and Tell Project! Today I’m excited to tell you about the Fat Quarter Skirt from Thread Riding Hood because it only uses 2 fat quarters AND is the perfect stash buster project!  I’m sure I’m not the only one who buys fat quarters just because they are beautiful, even if I have no idea what I’ll do with them. Right?

The Fat Quarter Skirt comes in sizes 2-6 and is a quick and simple project – perfect for quilters wanting to venture into sewing clothing or maybe even for a little girl who wants to help sew her own clothes. My daughter is content with just picking out the fabrics – she insisted on owls this time. And pink. Always pink. Continue Reading

The Paris Party Dress Release Day!

Today I’m happy to share with you the newest release from Mummykins and Me – the Paris Party Dress.  The timing is perfect –  there is still time to sew up one or two of these before the holidays!  While the title may have the word ‘dress’ in it, this pattern includes much more than that!  There are multiple options for a skirt and top, in addition to the option to sew the two together – especially useful for very little ones.  I tested the basic three-quarter length sleeve top with a simple neckband and the knee length skirt with a back elastic option. Vintage Grace Flutter Dress by Bella Sunshine Designs

Today I’m delighted to share with you the newest pattern from Bella Sunshine Designs – the Vintage Grace Flutter Dress! This darling dress is the perfect summer dress for girls. It features little flutter sleeves, a sweet  scooped back, and a simple bodice front that is perfect for embellishments!

I think my favorite part of this dress is the back of the bodice. It is sweet, simple, and really defines the dress.  The three buttons add to the charm. It is the perfect place to add a pop of color or use special buttons.  For this project, I used vintage buttons from the collection that my grandma gave me.  Vintage buttons have so much character – I love incorporating them into almost every project that I can as my own little signature touch. Mother + Daughter Summer Caye Shorts from Love Notions

On Friday, Eleri shared the Love Notions’ Summer Caye shorts and split-hem pants she made for her darling toddler.  You can see pictures and her pattern review here.  Today, I’d like to share with you the Summer Caye shorts from Love Notions that I sewed up for me and my mini-me!

I made the longer cuffed version of the shorts for both of us – 9″ inseam for me, 6″ inseam for my daughter. The flat front waistband adds a nice polish while the back elastic makes them super comfy. The particular fabric that I used had the feel of linen and had a nice drape and flow to it. This pattern is perfect for all those fun flowy summer fabrics – lightweight wovens and knits alike. It is comfortable and allows for freedom of movement for active little girls.  In addition, there are pockets hidden away in the side seams – perfect for collecting flower petals or carrying other small treasures.  The back of the dress is simple and ideal for little girls who are bothered by the bulk of buttons or other closures on the back. Welcome Spring, Welcome Flutterby!

Hey guys!

Eleri and I have a treat of a top and dress pattern to share with you today. The Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop is releasing the Flutterby Top and Dress pattern and it is on sale for $6.75 today (4/14). The pattern features a raglan style top or dress with flutter sleeves in sizes 3 mo to 12.

You probably know by now that Eleri loves all the knit dresses from the Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop. Usually, Eleri sews her child’s ready-to-wear size with some added length. Because of the deep armscye and raglan ruffle neck, it is imperative to pay close attention to the size chart on this sew. Eleri usually sews a 10 for her Big Miss, but sized down to an 8 for this test and got perfect results. Continue Reading
