#TymetoSew Giveaway!

Hello Sew and Tell Project Fans!

I am SEW excited about this post! Sew and Tell Project is rapidly approaching it’s anniversary! Since we relaunched our site last year, we have shared over a hundred fun projects with you via Facebook, Instagram, and, of course, here on the blog.

To celebrate, we have teamed up with a few AMAZING sponsors to share some of the things we love with ONE lucky reader! Enter the giveaway in the Rafflecopter at the end of the post between 3/1/2017 and 3/8/2017 for a chance to win the following prizes! Contest is open to international contestants. Winner is responsible for any shipping fees outside of United States. Please note when entering that the Tyme hair iron may not meet the voltage requirements for your country if outside of the U.S.

So what inspired this giveaway? Over the past two and a half years, I’ve become part of an incredible sewing community. We all share one major thing in common: we sew because we want our clothing to fit well and look good. This is why I love combining Love Notions Patterns with quality Art Gallery Fabrics to create unique and flattering looks such as the Margot Peplum (pictured here in Deep Sea Plaid) and the Willow Wrap Top (using Bougainvillea Evergreen). I collaborated with Art Gallery Fabrics to create both of the looks featured in this post using their super soft cotton spandex knits! I’ve also recently created two other looks using the brand new rayon substrate that Art Gallery Fabrics is carrying in FOUR gorgeous prints! I can’t wait to share those very soon. It has been fun to do some extra special sewing for myself and get in front of the camera a bit more these past few months.

But now it’s time to talk about the HAIR. When you sew, shoot, and blog as much as I do, it is important to streamline for time’s sake. I recently ditched some of the extra long length on my hair and went for long layers. I am also growing out my bangs a bit to be more sideswept. While I’ve used my own Tyme iron the last 18 months or so, I’ve fallen in love with it especially over the last six months to give my hair some lift and body.

The Tyme iron is a quick way to give my hair varying, soft curls that hold all day. While I only use my Tyme iron as a curling tool, it can also straighten hair. I usually style my hair with soft, loose waves, and add more face framing curls to the front. This tool also works nicely to curl my “growing out” bangs away from my face and give lift and volume at the top of my hair.

I have very thick, but fine textured hair. When I first got my Tyme iron as a Mother’s Day gift, I struggled to get the curls I wanted so I contacted Tyme for help. With each Tyme iron, a one-on-one Style Tyme session is included to help you master your new favorite beauty tool. I actually was blessed to FaceTime with the creator of the iron, Jacynda Smith, to get the technique down for my hair type and style.

Here is a quick summary of my favorite Tyme tricks and tips:

  1. If you have thick hair like mine, section it into several sections. I usually section mine into four small sections on the top of my head and start with the remaining bottom layer. This helps me make sure I don’t miss any pieces of hair when curling.
  2. The Tyme iron is supposed to be a quick and easy way to curl your hair, but I’ve also learned NOT to rush it to get the curls I want. I use my fingers to fan out smaller pieces of hair to curl, especially when I want tighter curls with more hold. I still manage to get my hair down much quicker and with better results than with hot rollers or a traditional curling wand.
  3. I always hold the tip of my hair that is gliding through the iron, and then flip my curl to help it set tighter.
  4. Getting the curl you want is all about angles. There are so many helpful videos to help you achieve your desired curl.

While I styled my hair loosely for the photoshoots featured in this post, you can see on my latest Instagram post that I can also do tighter curls!
