Back to School Fun on the Playground with the Simple Life Pattern Company!

Hey fans! Emily and I are so excited to be part of the Simple Life Pattern Company’s Back to School Blog Tour. Today’s stops are all about playground fun, and we’ve got some great looks to keep your girls having fun AND looking great! Before you leave, be sure to enter the giveaway at the end – lots of great prizes!

#madebygenie here, and I chose to make Cheyenne’s Ultimate Ruffle Tshirt and Emilya’s Skinny Pants, Capris, & Bermuda Shorts for my rising first grader. She loves to run, play, jump, and hang upside down, and so skirts are just not an option for playground fun. The outfit we came up with is as comfy as it is fun & stylish!

Both patterns are available in sizes 2t – 12, and the patterns are layered so that you can print only the size/s that you need. Cheyenne’s Tshirt comes with so many options; short, 3/4, or long sleeves, as well as a tank option. You can opt for a simple finish with a banded neckline and hemmed sleeves, or you can add a ruffle to the neck and sleeves. Or two or three ruffles. Or a ruffle band! I don’t know if you know this about me, but I love ruffles, and so a simple finish wasn’t going to do it for me. While the ruffles are a bit time consuming, the pattern is pretty straight forward and was pretty easy to assemble. And…RUFFLES!

I really love the sleeve finish with the double ruffle.

Emilya’s Pants includes lengths for Bermuda shorts, capris, and pants. You can finish them with front or cargo pockets (the cargo pockets can be embellished with a bow detail), and the pants can be hemmed or finished with a cuff.  I am admittedly not the fastest sewist (I’m just too easily distracted), and I was able to sew these up in about 40 minutes, including the pockets. My daughter is tall and skinny for her age, so I mashed a 4 for width with a 7 for length, and they look great! I will size these up a little next time (and there will be more of these made) so that she has more room to grow with them.

I think these bright colors will take her from summer into fall, and are perfect for some playground antics!

Hello!  Emily here and I’m sharing the Adelyn Scoop Back Dresses that I thought would be just perfect this for this little lady who is delighted to finally be in kindergarten!  Not only does she love to run and play, but she also likes dresses and comfortable no-fuss clothing that she can easily put on herself without messing with buttons or ties.

The Adelyn is so perfect for back to school style!  I used a soft and sturdy knit for these dresses so they will hold up beautifully through many school days and outdoor adventures. The bodices are fully lined which makes the inside of the dress nice and soft against sensitive skin and adds a nice clean finish along the entire neck edge.

There are two scoop back options, and I picked the ‘modest scoop’ to make these dresses school-appropriate and perfect for the cooler weather that will be coming soon.  The back scoop is such a simple and elegant touch that adds another level of cuteness to these dresses.

To mix things up, I made the green dress a bit longer than the pattern dress length and the red dress shorter than the pattern dress length. I always try to start the season with the dress length at least hitting her knee in hopes that they will last the full school year.  She seems to shoot up a few inches every time she gets new dresses!

It is still very hot here, but as soon as the weather cools off, these dresses will be layered over leggings to make them even more playground-perfect.  I’m thinking that some mustard colored Sarah Ann’s Cuff Leggings would coordinate beautifully with the red dress.  I just love the detail on those leggings – that pattern is definitely on my “must sew soon” list!  For now, however, bike shorts under these dresses are much better for the hot weather we’re having.

While the Adelyn Scoop Back Top and Dress pattern has options for sleeveless, flutters, short sleeves, and long sleeves, I cut the long sleeves short to make them three quarter length.  Kindergarteners have too much on their minds to remember to roll up sleeves before hand washing time and soggy sleeves are just miserable!  Additionally, it makes the dress seasonably appropriate for fall through summer. The little puffy gathers at the top of the sleeves add a sweet little touch – she says they kind of make her look like a princess. From a kindergartener, that is high praise indeed!

The Adelyn Scoop Back Top and Dress pattern fits sizes 2t through 12 BUT there is a darling Baby Adelyn version available as well for the size 18/24 month and under crowd.  With so many options, there is a wide variety of looks to create from just this one pattern!  The pattern itself is rated for beginners and a surprisingly quick sew. I was able to make both of these in just one day.  Once I got started, it was hard to stop – I definitely will be making more of these!

I love the dress! The ruffles on the shirt are so practical for play and yet fancy, too! You ladies are so talented! It will be fun to see what you come up with next!

I love these so much! But the princess comment was absolutely the best.

Love the skinny pants! I’m so afraid to make something so fitted because I’m afraid I’ll make it too small and be unwearable. I should muslin more so I get over this fear.

It is a scary thought, and I think a muslin is usually a great idea. I love how these turned out! Thank you 🙂
