This post is a milestone for me in many ways! This is my first sew from the highly-anticipated Issue 13 of One Thimble, my first make using a fabulous Designs by Call Ajaire pattern, and my first post since I returned from Quilt Market 11 days ago!
I am so excited to share my creation for the tour: The Raglan Party Dress by Designs by Call Ajaire! You definitely need to check out all the beautiful tester pics in the Designs by Call Ajaire Facebook group. One of my favorite things about this pattern is how much the look changes based on which woven fabrics you choose to use. There are also THREE different skirt options to create a variety of different looks.
For my dress I chose to make View C out of stretch taffeta. Stretch taffeta is my favorite special occasion fabric to work with because it is not as slippery as satin and it has a great body (see how full her skirt is without an underskirt). I also am able to iron it on the polyester setting on my iron.
My daughter needed a simple black and white dress for her upcoming piano symphony. For the raglan sleeves, I layered some vintage lace from my stash over the raglan stash to highlight the design feature of this pattern. It is hard to tell in these pictures, but my eight-year-old daughter is already 58″ tall but she is very slender. I really appreciated the comprehensive size chart included in the pattern that included several measurements including shoulder to waist, finished garment measurements, etc. For those of us that need to blend across several sizes this is invaluable.
I love the comprehensive box pleat instructions included in the pattern. The box pleats are marked on the actual pattern pieces to make it easier to assemble the dress, I still goofed and reversed the order of my box pleats in the back, but that was my error. The pattern includes illustrations that clearly indicate right side and wrong side of garment.
I love the delicate V in the back. It is noticeable without being two deep. The pattern tutorial also includes clear instructions for installing an invisible zipper.
I hope you love her dress as much as she loves it! She is so happy to be comfortable for her upcoming recitals in a dress that fits her well because it’s tailored to her!
