Fashions for a Fiesta!

Hola! I am proud to be a stop on the Fiesta Fun Fabrics blog tour today!

Last fall, I had the privilege of attending Quilt Market with Simple Life Pattern Company. Right before market, I started seeing sneaks of the Fiesta Fun fabric line by Dana Willard. I drooled over the swatches and waited anxiously for this line to be released.

I actually made a few things for the look book when the line released such as this Simple Life Pattern Company Sophie.

For the blog tour, I wanted to incorporate a couple different prints than I used for the lookbook- but I still reached for this stunning pink and white print to complete my looks!

Making a Simple Life Pattern Company Jaimesyn was a no-brainer for this collection.  I decided to vary up my usual options with the Jaimesyn and used the Zocalo Raspberry Print for both the bodice and the double ruffles to make it frilly for any senorita!  I used Florita Azul for the skirt. Florita Azul is a delightfully busy print featuring pops of navy, orange, and hot pink. I wanted to really dig into the fiesta theme with this look!

A few years ago, when I really got bit by the sewing bug, I used Dana’s fiesta skirt tutorial. I decided to add rows of hot pink bias trim to my skirt as an homage to her blog tutorial. I used beautiful 50 weight Aurifil thread for topstitching these rows and rows of bias tape.

My youngest daughter is only 2.5 and the Jaimesyn dresses I’ve been making are by far her favorite.  I took care to center the repeats before I cut my bodice, and I just love how it turned out.

At first I thought her look would be the star of this post, but then I started working on my son’s outfit.

Dana’s lines are always so bright and fun. I knew I couldn’t leave my little man out when making fun outfits. When using fun woven prints for boys, the Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop Classic Oxford is my go-to pattern. I chose the Florita Party for a short sleeve button down shirt. I just love the bright orange for a fun spring and summer look. I followed the pattern as written but opted to skip interfacing the collar stand for a softer look. (Bonus: This size 6, short sleeved version was made with only 1 yard of fabric!)

Shortly after I signed up for the blog tour, my son developed an obsession with bow ties. Amy from Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop was kind enough to send me the Little Gentleman Tie to complete my son’s look. I wanted his look to coordinate with his little sister’s so I used scraps of the Zocalo Raspberry Print to make his bow tie. With fabric this festive, you have to use every scrap! Because he is 4.5, I selected the child-size on the pattern but probably could have used the toddler size. I do think the oversized bow is darling for this look, though.

One of my favorite things about this collection is that many of the main prints have striking geometrics. However, the designs coordinate very well together and pack a punch without being overly busy. The prints are directional, but the way the repeats are laid out make stripe and pattern matching very simple to achieve.

Thank you for visiting and reading about my looks! We hope your day is as bright and colorful as this beautiful collection!
