Hello lovely readers!
I am absolutely pumped to be on my first tour for Riley Blake Designs today! If you’ve read several of my past posts, you know that I am a big fan of Riley Blake cotton spandex knits. The quality is absolutely amazing and my children love the Riley Blake lines just as much as I do. If you would like your own chance to win a mini-stash of Riley Blake Acorn Valley flannel make sure you read all the way through the end to enter the giveaway!
When I was invited to participate in the Acorn Valley Blog Tour, I was delighted by the whimsical prints and had a difficult time deciding what I would like to feature. I knew that my Middle Miss would especially love the butterflies and look amazing in the teal colorway. I selected to showcase the gorgeous Acorn Valley Flutter Teal in knit and the Acorn Valley Leafy Chevron Teal in knit. As hard as it is to admit, I knew it was time to start sewing her back to school wardrobe.
All year round my girls live in knit dresses. They are nice enough for Sundays and special outings, but comfortable enough for all day play. Middle Miss especially prefers dresses over pants every day of the week even during our long winters! We decided to try a new-to-us pattern for this look: The Modkid Lexi. Acorn Valley textile designer Patty Young is also the lead designer for Modkid. Make sure you check out all of Modkid’s eye-catching designs!
The Lexi has several features that set it apart from the other knit dress patterns I use. I love the adorable keyhole back which gave me another opportunity to showcase the leafy chevron print. The Lexi is an easy pattern to adjust for sizes, but I did not find it necessary to add additional length like I usually do to make this dress school appropriate.
I really love the sleeve cuffs and hem band details. I did the traditional hem band finish but the Lexi pattern includes a neat tutorial for making a lettuce-edged hem band. The Lexi also has an elasticized waist which makes it very easy to adjust the fit around the waist. I definitely plan to sew the Lexi again for all my little girls!
When I was finished with my beautiful Acorn Valley Lexi, I was sad to be done using this gorgeous fabric. Luckily, I have a tiny girl still, so I printed a favorite stash buster pattern, the Little Miss Sunshine tee by Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop, and just barely had enough left to make Little Miss a comfy tee in a 3T to match her sissy. I modified the pattern to include cuffed sleeves instead of hemmed so it would complement her big sister’s Lexi as well.
If you want to buy the Lexi pattern or any of the other fabulous patterns from the Modkid Boutique, there is a special coupon code going on right now to celebrate the blog tour:
