Welcome to the Breaking Ground Blog Tour 2018! This week over 20 bloggers are joining together to break new ground by trying a pattern designer that is new to them, try new techniques, new styles, or whatever way they want to push themselves. We’re always up for a new challenge, and today I’m sharing a little project I’ve been working on – sweet little baby clothes! Lately I’ve been sewing less and spending all my extra minutes snuggling my sweet new baby, who is growing up way too fast already! For this blog tour, I just knew I needed to try sewing baby clothes. Baby girl still spends a decent portion of her day snuggling and sleeping so I wanted to make something comfy, cozy, and cute. I think every single one of the patterns at Brindille and Twig meets that criteria! I always see so many pictures of adorably squishy babies modelling their mama’s newest Brindille and Twig makes in the PDF sewing groups on Facebook but never had a reason to try out those patterns before now. I have been so excited for this special occasion blog tour! Several weeks ago Becca said “We should do a blog tour for the holidays!” Or maybe Katie said that. Or maybe it was my idea – but I’m blaming Becca for now. In any case, Simple Life Pattern Company has decided to bring you an amazing line-up of bloggers and their SLPco Holiday creations for a spectacular #SLPcoHolidays blog tour. Even better? There is a sitewide sale : you can shop ALL the patterns and save 20% using the code “SLPcoSpecial” during the blog tour. Make sure you read all the way to the end of my post to enter the giveaway to win fabric and patterns from some amazing sponsors! Continue Reading
Welcome to our stop on the Love Notions Hip Hop Blog Tour! Genie and Alisha have two versions of the Hip Hop Tank to share with you today.
I (Alisha) chose to make the Hip Hop tank with sleeves. Fall is rapidly approaching in North Dakota, and I knew I wouldn’t get as much wear out of a sleeveless shirt. While digging through my fabric stash, I found this coral colored lace I had been hoarding from Hobby Lobby. I decided to layer it over a gray cotton lycra. I made a couple modifications to my shirt. First I lengthened it by 2 inches. I’m about 4″ taller than the height Tami drafts for and I find that adding a bit of length just makes everything fit better. I also prefer my shirts on the longer side. I also widened the neckband to add a bit more of the gray around the neck. Continue Reading
I’m so happy to be part of Duchess and Hare’s first blog tour. Please see the post schedule below and be sure to visit the other participants! The prizes are 5 Duchess and Hare Patterns and a $25 gift certificate to Threads and Stitches Fabric…may the odds be ever in your favor!
Duchess and Hare are a new-to-me pattern company featuring vintage-inspired patterns with a modern fit. We were given our choice of pattern to sew up from the shop, and I decided to sew a Muttonchop Dress with a short sleeve. It took me a while to figure out the name; the long-sleeved version of this cute top or dress has a fitted bottom with the flared shoulder, giving it the look of a (say it with me now)…Muttonchop! Wow! Our little blog is hopping this week! Today is my turn on the Sew Caroline Weekend Style Book Blog Tour!
A couple months ago the fabulous Caroline Hulse of Sew Caroline invited me to participate in her Weekend Style blog tour! Of course I agreed! I had already received my pre-ordered book and fallen in love with the projects! The book is just beautiful to spend an afternoon reading through and planning. Within a few hours of receiving my copy I had my first pattern printed, taped, and sewn. Continue Reading
Summer is finally here!
With school ending, I had some non-dedicated sewing time and decided it was high time to whip up a fun, summery outfit for my middle daughter (who is now a SECOND GRADER!) What says summer more than a cute halter top in a fun print? This is the Be Trendy Halter Top by Ellie and Mac, and I have a copy to give to a lucky reader! The skirt is SLPco’s free Gracie’s Pocket Skirt, and all three of the fabrics came from JoAnn Fabrics.

Love Notions Bluezette is a pattern that I’ve been wanting to try and I’m so excited that I had an excuse to use it! With five skirt options, two bodice choices, and three sleeve lengths, there are so many ways you can put one together. In fact, I ended up making two, and they are going to get so much use this summer.
The dress is designed for knits, but any of the gathered skirt options will work with lighter, drapey fabric choices, and I knew right away that I wanted to use the amazing Art Gallery Rayon in Swifting Flora Boho I’d been hoarding (it’s so soft, and was a dream to sew). Continue Reading
I have a teenager.
Weird, right? This itty bitty girl is now nearly 14 and in the 8th grade:
This was a flower girl dress that I made her. Back then, she liked party dresses with fluffy skirts, and ruffles, and bows, and really anything Mommy made her. Things sure have changed! She still likes the things that I make her, but the focus has changed. I think now it’s more about my taking the time and thought to make her something, while still wanting to look like her friends. The hardest sewing lesson I’ve had to learn is to listen to her and use fabrics and patterns that she likes. We still have our disagreements, but giving up the ruffles and florals when I sew for her has gone a long way. Now, if we could only find the perfect compromise to hemlines and NOT having everything fit like dance wear… Continue Reading
Welcome to the Sew and Tell Project! Today I’m excited to tell you about the Fat Quarter Skirt from Thread Riding Hood because it only uses 2 fat quarters AND is the perfect stash buster project! I’m sure I’m not the only one who buys fat quarters just because they are beautiful, even if I have no idea what I’ll do with them. Right?
The Fat Quarter Skirt comes in sizes 2-6 and is a quick and simple project – perfect for quilters wanting to venture into sewing clothing or maybe even for a little girl who wants to help sew her own clothes. My daughter is content with just picking out the fabrics – she insisted on owls this time. And pink. Always pink. Continue Reading
