I haven’t sewn many pattern tests this year, but it’s hard for me to pass up a Love Notions pattern test…especially when it’s something so darn practical AND cute!
The Navigator Pullover is an on trend, half-zip pullover with a front kangaroo pocket, and options for a collar or hood in sizes 2T through 16. It’s designed for stable knits, and perfect for boys and girls. I chose a cotton lycra French Terry with 4 way stretch from Raspberry Creek Fabrics, but many of the testers used less stretchy ponte or fleece with great results.
One of my favorite parts of sewing for my kids is adding the little details like colorblocking and pockets that they love to their outfits. Usually I need to hack a pattern to do that, but Amy over at Peek a Boo Pattern Shop has taken care of that for me now with the new Hideout Hoodie!
The Hideout Hoodie is a relaxed fit raglan with short or long sleeves and a hood or neckband which allow you to make a variety of looks from one pattern. More bang for your buck!

I recently tested the Baby Saylor from Simple Life Pattern Company and loved the square open back and bow options. When SLPCo decided to release a similar knit dress, Baby Skyler, I jumped at the chance to test it because knits are just so comfy for my busy toddler. The Skyler is also available in girls’ sizes so stay tuned for Eleri and Emily’s versions coming to the blog in a few days!
Welcome back to the Sew and Tell Project! We’ve been a bit quiet over here on the blog over the holidays. I’m back today with a new dress from Simple Life Pattern Company which has quickly become my favorite for my little girl.
The Aria and Baby Aria are knit dresses with a fun back addition–a panel including bows. It’s such a fun, simple twist to add fun and interest to the back of a knit dress.
I have been loving getting to sew little girl outfits after sewing for 4 boys. Sewing ruffles and dresses and pink has been such a blast! I’m quickly realizing that while I love dresses on my little girl, onesies are so much more functional because they don’t lift up showing a baby’s little belly especially in these cold winter months here in the Upper Midwest. However, I love the look of dresses so I started thinking about how to solve my problem, and I decided to mash the Peek a Boo Pattern Shop Gloria dress with the Eeny Meeny Miny Moe Bodysuit (I’m going to call this the EMMM in the rest of this post). For my mash up, I used Art Gallery Flower Field Bachelorette Knit with the solid Dark Fuchsia knit from Peek a Boo Pattern Shop. I love Amy’s selections of fabrics and know that anything I purchase from there is high quality.
As many of you from the sewing world have probably heard, Kennis, the designer from Itch to Stitch, came home from vacation to find her home buglarized. She lost her sewing machines, cameras, computers, and many other things. I wanted to share one of my favorite Itch to Stitch tops with you today and encourage you to go support her shop as she rebuilds her business.
I made the Itch to Stitch Kathryn top in a cotton jersey from last year’s Raspberry Creek Fabrics club line. (If you haven’t heard, Raspberry Creek recently moved to their own website from Etsy, and it’s fabulous! Go check out their Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday sales this weekend.) The Kathryn features a pleated upper section and is available in both dress and top length. This is a perfect casual shirt with jeans and I find myself reaching for it frequently. (Fun fact: I was actually about 18 weeks pregnant with my baby in this picture!)
Brrr! Baby, it’s cold outside so I’m keeping this post short and sweet! Did you see my post last month about the new girls’ Sloane sweater? This beautiful pattern was originally just in ladies’ sizing so I couldn’t leave my own closet bare when I saw how cute my daughter looked in hers! For the blog tour, I opted to make something that is just my fit and style these days. I live in the upper Upper Midwest (like almost to Canada, yo). I sewed up View A with the optional yoke. I added 3″ to length both to account for the usual 2″ I add for my 5’10” height and also because I like my tops to run a little long to accommodate all the chasing and bending I do all day as a “go-everywhere-but-home” homeschool mom.
