Hello quilting friends!
I’ve slowly been trying to get back into the swing of sharing more completed projects. As I mentioned in my last post, I had my sixth baby during the pandemic. While he is just the sweetest and easiest little guy, I really had to let a few things go to focus on my teens all the way down to my little ones.
Isn’t he a doll? He’s 17 months now.
I never stopped sewing or quilting though – I just haven’t taken the extra time to photograph and share my finished projects and I am hoping to be better about showing my current projects as well as some past finished quilts.
Today, I am sharing my most recent finished quilt featuring Lady Bird Fabrics designed by my friend Crystal Manning. I used the Ramona Quilt Pattern by Penelope Handmade. The finished quilt combines my favorite things about quilting: vintage vibes, playful colors, and easy scrappy blocks. I have found that I am happiest when working on repeating one block over and over during this phase in my life. Boy, did I have to get creative about squeezing sewing time in. I actually pieced (and squared up) nearly all of the HST’s in this quilt during my daughter’s figure skating lessons at the ice rink 45 miles away!
I made the throw size and really had fun piecing the blocks. I did make my squares larger and trim each one down with a Bloc Loc Ruler. I find that I don’t mind trimming blocks nearly as much as I mind “fudging them to fit” when assembling my final quilt. I also made sure to press all my HST seams to the dark side and my blocks nested so nicely that I rarely used pins.
Mandi Persell of Sewcial Stitch has longarmed most of my recent quilts including this one. She does an incredible job!
I chose the large scale blue floral from the Lady Bird fabric collection for my backing. When my quilt was returned to me, I couldn’t find anything in my stash that I liked to bind it, so I picked up this navy chicken wire print from my local quilt shop.
I am really glad I had the time to share this quilt with you today! If you are a big Crystal Manning fan like I am, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for her next collection Garden Society to be shipped to stores in August. Crystal kindly sent me some large scraps and I have been piecing a postage stamp quilt in short spurts! I have also mixed in a few Grunge and ombre confetti scraps! Don’t Crystal’s collections play well together?
Thanks for stopping by today! If you want to see my next quilt come together, head over and follow me on Instagram!
