The Sew and Tell Project

Welcome back to the Sew and Tell Project! As you’ve probably noticed, my life is full of boys! I don’t get a chance to sew girly dresses very often but I have a sweet goddaughter who I love to spoil with new pretty things every so often. When I’m looking for a gorgeous girly pattern, my first stop is Simple Life Pattern Company. I love the frills and ruffles! Right now Simple Life is having a back to school sale so it’s the perfect time to hop over and try their patterns (or add to your collection). Run, don’t walk! The end of sale date hasn’t been announced and I don’t want you to miss it!

Today I have 4 different looks to share with you! First up is a baby Adelyn I made. This dress features a lined knit bodice and a knit or woven circle or gathered skirt.

As is the case with all the Simple Life patterns, this one is packed with options too! It also comes with various sleeve options (tank, flutter, short, and long sleeves) and a back tie. There also is a low back and modest back option. I chose to add flutter sleeves to my modest back dress as well as the circle skirt. The flutter sleeves add a delicate feminine touch. This dress was a fast sew, except for hemming the circle skirt, but that always takes some time!

The next dress I sewed was a special for the 4th of July. I made a baby Bella with this fun glittery fireworks fabric I found at Joanns. The Bella can be made in a top, dress, or maxi length, and with a simple skirt or a ruffled skirt. I chose the dress length with a ruffled skirt.

My favorite part of the Bella is the variety of strap options as well as the elastic back.  I anticipate this will allow my goddaughter to wear this dress for  quite a while and use it as a tunic in the future. I was able to use my rolled hem foot to hem the bottom ruffle which made for a nice professional finish.

The Lucy is one of the newest releases from Simple Life Pattern Company. It is available as a dress or a tunic and includes fun pockets. I chose not to use the pockets as my goddaughter is only 1, but for an older girl, they can be a great place to store treasures 🙂 It also has a narrow or wide racerback option.

I used a Tutti Frutti fabric from Joanns to make a dress length wide racerback option. This lightweight fabric made a perfect casual summer play dress. I also chose to use KAM Snaps to finish the back instead of buttons.

And now….I’ve saved my favorite outfit for last! When I saw the release pictures of the Cora Top, Dress, and Maxi, I knew that I needed to sew this. I fell in love with the gorgeous wave bodice. It added such beautiful visual detail to the bodice. The wave bodice was a bit tricky but the directions were easy to follow. The finished product turned out amazing!

I chose to use the Simple Life romper add on instead of a skirt to make a more functional outfit for my goddaughter who isn’t quite walking yet.

I also love the tie straps and elastic back which will add room as my goddaughter grows and hopefully allow her to wear this all the way through fall.
