Love Notions Whistler

Love Notions has been hinting about this pattern for a while now, and anticipation has been high.

Let me tell you…it lives up to all the hype. Welcome to the pdf pattern world, Whistler Pullover by Love Notions.

Whistler is a loose pullover meant for layering, available in sizes XS through XXXL.

img_5762I’ve chosen the hooded version in a fun Dr. Who print (poly spandex blend from JoAnn Fabrics). I’ve been hoarding this fabric for what seems like a really long time, but this seemed the perfect use for it. The black fabric is a rib knit, also from JoAnn’s.

And (wait for it…) IT HAS POCKETS. I love a good pocket, don’t you? The loose construction is accented with a button closure, and you can choose to do a gathered or plain front. This is the gathered version. If hoods aren’t your thing, you can choose the shawl collar. The sleeves are finished in cuffs, and the bottom can be banded or hemmed. Options for shirt or tunic length are included. Mine is a gathered hoodie using the hemmed, shirt length version.

Fabric choice will make a lot of difference in this top. Heavier, more stable fabrics, like ponte, fleece, or some sweater knits, will make a true sweater-type top. Lighter, drapier, stretchier blends, like French terry with cotton lycra, cotton lycra, or the poly spandex I used, will make a completely different look. This top is made for layering and is not form fitting. It’s a really comfy weekend look. I made the size I measured into and could have sized down. For the more stable knits, I wouldn’t recommend sizing down, but the lighter, stretchier knits should be great candidates for a more fitted look.

Finally, construction. It’s much easier than it looks. Attaching the fronts (through which the pockets are made) is tricky, but Tami has provided very clear instructions and sketches, and has even made a video available if you have trouble with the written instructions. All in all, this pattern is another quality piece in Love Notions’ arsenal.
