I’m really excited to be blogging about the new Softshell Jacket from Gracious Threads today! If you’ve been following Sew and Tell Project for awhile, you might remember that Jessica was the winner of Season 12 of Project Run and Play! I can’t believe it’s been almost exactly one year since we competed in this awesome sewing competition.
We’ve stayed connected to the other contestants throughout this past year. When Jess needed testers for her new Softshell Jacket though, I noticed that I had some free time in my sewing calendar so I hurried to sign up because the sewing community is cool like that. Bonus: This jacket is exactly what the kids needed for our upcoming trip to the U.K.
I’m so excited to have a little girl and get to test all the fun dresses and tunics I’ve missed out on with 4 boys. Peek a Boo Pattern Shop has just released the Delaney Dress and Tunic, and I sewed up two tunics for my little girl. The Delaney features a high-low hemline, three sleeve lengths (short, 3/4, and full), a neckband or hood option, and a front pocket.
My first version is a size 6 month long sleeve tunic length without the pocket. I used a panel previously offered at Peek a Boo Pattern Shop. I love the high low hem which adds interest to a basic tunic.

I have been requesting for quite some time that there be a homeschool themed cut file for those of us prepping to go back to school…..right at home. I’m entering my sixth year homeschooling my children and I have to confess that I get a little bummed when I see all the teacher-themed items filling up the Dollar Spot at Target and none of it is for me.
Welcome to our stop on the Love Notions Hip Hop Blog Tour! Genie and Alisha have two versions of the Hip Hop Tank to share with you today.
I (Alisha) chose to make the Hip Hop tank with sleeves. Fall is rapidly approaching in North Dakota, and I knew I wouldn’t get as much wear out of a sleeveless shirt. While digging through my fabric stash, I found this coral colored lace I had been hoarding from Hobby Lobby. I decided to layer it over a gray cotton lycra. I made a couple modifications to my shirt. First I lengthened it by 2 inches. I’m about 4″ taller than the height Tami drafts for and I find that adding a bit of length just makes everything fit better. I also prefer my shirts on the longer side. I also widened the neckband to add a bit more of the gray around the neck.
I got the really exciting news about a month ago that I’d been accepted as a Rebecca Page Brand Ambassador. This means that I am compensated with fun, free patterns, and then I get to sew them up and share them with you. Fun, right? I knew that Rebecca Page (formerly Mummykins and Me) was known for well-drafted clothing patterns, but with the name change, she’s moving into different areas. Pattern sizes now range from dolls to newborn to child to tween to teen to adult to plus sized (18″ doll to 5xl). Plus, maybe even more exciting, more crafty-style patterns will begin to find their way into the lineup (such as this Elf and Fairy Crown and Wand). The newest pattern, and what this post is about, is the Dolls House Quiet Book.

Duchess and Hare are a new-to-me pattern company featuring vintage-inspired patterns with a modern fit. We were given our choice of pattern to sew up from the shop, and I decided to sew a Muttonchop Dress with a short sleeve. It took me a while to figure out the name; the long-sleeved version of this cute top or dress has a fitted bottom with the flared shoulder, giving it the look of a (say it with me now)…Muttonchop!
In the northern Midwest, we’re in the thick of summer. A Michigan summer is hot and humid, and shorts are a necessity! That being said, my middle daughter really isn’t fond of them; she’d live in leggings if she could! So I have to be careful to make them pretty, soft, and comfy. If there’s one thing that has been constant between Miss M and her big brothers as babies, it is their love of being swaddled. My babies have all loved that wrapped up tight feeling. Miss M is currently a rock star sleeper, most of which I attribute to the swaddle because she can’t startle herself awake. The only problem I’m finding is that because she was on the larger side at birth, she’s outgrowing many of the swaddle blankets we own. She’s currently growing into 6-9 month clothing and is only 3 months today!
I feel that I could write a chapter on the influence of sewing and motherhood on my life. I hope I can do this topic justice in one blog post.

Within a few hours of receiving my copy I had my first pattern printed, taped, and sewn.
