Fabulous and Fashionable for the Holidays

My daughters and I are SO excited to be sharing new looks today featuring Simple Life Patterns. We are ready to dazzle and shine for our holiday season. If you haven’t started sewing yet (or still need to shop for patterns), SLPco is having it’s last sitewide sale of the year. Sale runs from 11/11-11/25 and EXCLUDES svg cut files.

For my tour makes I decided to showcase that SLPco now offers women’s patterns. I’ve made so many for myself so far (Sapphire is my favorite right now for our cold weather)! My gorgeous 11-year-old daughter is now 5’8″ and measures into the size 00 on the SLPco women’s size chart. I decided to make her a glittery stretch velvet Samantha dress. I wanted something that she could feel comfortable and stylish in for Christmas Mass and relaxing at various relatives’ houses throughout the holidays.

I fell in love with this red twinkle velvet spandex from Peek-a-Boo Fabric shop. It has excellent drape but it is thick so I decided to size up to a 0 for my daughter so it would sit comfortably. I also decided to use binding for the neckline instead of bands since I wanted the neckline to lay nicely with the thicker fabric. One word of caution for working with velvet: Make sure you cut your pieces so the nap runs in the same direction on each piece. If you don’t, you risk having your garment appear two tone.

When I was done sewing I noticed that the deep red paired beautifully with the SLPco Tiegan I recently made her. Tiegan is also available in girls’ sizing and is perfect for an extra layering piece for dashing through the snow to grandma’s. I love that Tiegan looks just as nice with a short dress as it does with jeans so she can create many looks with it during and after the holidays.

Full disclosure: I wasn’t initially planning to make something for my 5-year-old. She has a closet full of holiday dresses from her two older sisters. (Hello, SLPco hand-me-downs). She took one look at her big sister’s dress and wanted something just like it! I’m not sure if it was the glitter sparkles or the soft velvet or just that I haven’t made her anything in awhile, but when someone wants a new dress as badly as she did, I knew I had to make one. I decided to sew a simple Autumn shift dress for her. I also sized up to a 7 due to the thickness of the velvet but it was probably not necessary.

We are honored to be appearing along with many other talented sewing bloggers for the SLPco Holiday Blog Tour! If you haven’t seen their posts this week, make sure you check out the other makers on the blog tour and be inspired for some gorgeous holiday and formal looks.

This is a great holiday dress that can be used for all the special winter events. The jacket is a plus, too!
