I’m sure where most of you live, it is starting to feel like summer. Here in the upper Midwest, our days are getting longer, school is almost out, and it’s getting hot! This week I had the joy of testing for a new-to-me designer, Bella Sunshine Designs. You may remember Emily’s gorgeous Vintage Grace Flutter Dress from a few weeks ago. That was my first introduction to Bella Sunshine Designs, and I fell in love with their beautiful girly style. When the designers put up a testing call for the Felicity Top and Dress, I jumped at the chance to test the dress for my goddaughter who just turned one. Having 4 boys myself, it’s fun to sew something with ruffles and gathers once in a while!
The Felicity Top and Dress offers both a gathered or pintucked skirt as well as a basic hem or ruffled bottom. It also comes in a top length as well as a dress length. The final option is choosing between a shirred back or a back with elastic casings. I tested the 6 month size in a dress length with a gathered skirt, elastic back, and a ruffled bottom. It turned out beautifully!
The instructions for this pattern were well written and easy to follow. While there are quite a few steps because the dress is fully lined, don’t let that scare you off! I love the attention to detail that the designers used in providing a fully lined dress. It’s perfect for those little girls who don’t like itchy seams against their bodies.
The spaghetti straps are perfect for those hot summer days but also lend themselves well to layering over a onesie or other shirt for fall when the days cool off again. I used a cotton woven from Wal-Mart that I thought looked sweet and feminine for a one year old.
I’m already planning my material for my next Felicity Dress, and I’m looking forward to gifting them to my goddaughter soon! The Felicity Top and Dress is on sale through Memorial Day weekend for $5.95. Head on over to Bella Sunshine Designs and check out their other beautiful creations, also on sale for 30% off through Memorial Day!
