Comfortable Style with Laela Jeyne!

Hello lovelies! Welcome to my stop on the fabulous Laela Jeyne Patterns Plaid and Boots Blog Tour! There is a big giveaway for this tour so make sure you read all the way through, visit the other pages, and enter the Rafflecopter giveaway at the bottom of this post. Bonus: I’m leaving a lovely coupon code for you at the end of the post as well for 20% off your cart at Laela Jeyne Patterns!

My theme for today is Black Friday shopping! While these pictures were taken behind our home with no stores in sight, I do actually leave my little town to do some shopping on Black Friday. In the Midwest, layers are key, so you’ll notice that I used longer sleeves and comfortable knit pieces for my long drive to the store and for all-day comfort. And if there is a blizzard, I’ll be just as comfortable shopping at home from my computer!

The first looks I’m sharing with you today are my my coordinating Mother-Daughter look! I made myself an Emily T-Shirt with side accents! My sweet and adorable two-year-old is wearing a Sammy Swing Dress and coordinating Charlotte Leggings.

To say I LOVE the Emily tee would be a serious understatement. It is the perfect fitted tee with a subtle rounded hem. It has three sleeve length options with 2 cut lines for each for whether you want to add cuffs or not. I chose the elbow length with cuffs and lengthened them just a bit since I am on the taller side at 5’10”. There are two necklines : jewel neck or deeper scoop. There is also an option for a hood or a cowl. I love the clean look of a deep scoop combined with the optional triangle accents to add a pop of figure-flattering detail.

I used my favorite Art Gallery Fabrics print Katarina Roccella’s Crimson Paparounes paired with the coordinating Greeka Skouro print from the same line. I am obsessed with both prints right now and I know you will be, too!

My littlest love in my crazy household is wearing the Sammy Swing Dress with the simple version of the Charlotte leggings. Until this tour I had not sewn a girls’ Laela Jeyne Pattern before. I got perfect fit for my daughter on the first try going off the size chart. I have a lot of knit dress patterns in my rotation and I know this will be used a lot because it is quick to cut out and quick to sew with no gathered skirts to attach. I made the entire outfit in under an hour and I am NOT a quick sewist.

While I didn’t get a shot of the leggings alone – I think these will be my new “go-to” leggings for my toddler. I appreciated the ample rise and yoga waist band option that gave her plenty of coverage and comfort. They are also my only leggings pattern in my PDF stash that has a front and back piece so the fit is a bit different than most my leggings patterns. If you want to try the basic Charlotte leggings for free join the Laela Jeyne Fan Group and find the code to get the pattern.

My favorite detail on this outfit is the little cowl neckline. It looked so tiny when I was piecing it that I was worried about getting it over her jumbo toddler head but it was the perfect size! When I put the dress on her she said, “I so cute, Mama!” and then when I came out in my matching shirt for photos she exclaimed, “You cute like me!”

As if being generously provided with a few luxurious yards of AGF fabric wasn’t a blessing enough, I also got the chance to sew up a new adult-sized panel from the new Moon Man Printing! The panel says “In the rhythm of the needle there is music for the soul.” Anyone who loves sewing needs this t-shirt, folks! I especially love the vintage sewing machine graphic!

I went outside of my comfort zone with this comfy knit panel which I paired with two fabrics (floral and stripe) from a BOLT Homestead bundle I picked up at Quilt Market a few weeks ago.  The pattern is the just-released Sydney Slouchy Raglan and it is INSTANT love. Because I wanted my raglan to be less relaxed than the intended fit, and I was on the lower end of the size Large, I sized down to a Medium and got the perfect fit. I added length at the lengthen line for my height and I have worn this shirt nonstop since it’s been finished!

dsc_0088

One of my favorite things about the Sydney Slouchy Raglan is the elongated hem for the backview. I am very picky about hi-low hems and I think the proportions on this are perfectly flattering for my figure. I don’t always sew patterns a second time immediately but I have a whole stack of these planned as we move into our seasonal cold front here in the upper Midwest! Make sure you check out the pattern listing to see all the amazing options including in this relaxed fit raglan pattern.

I also want to give a shout-out to the quality of the knit panel. I had an accident with a non-bleaching cleaning solution that I was worried stained my new panel. I treated it with Oxi-Clean Max Force Gel, and washed it again. The screen printing is very colorfast with no bleeding or fading, and the fabric is so soft with no pilling. Make sure you check out Moon Man Printing!

Thank you to the fabulous sponsors especially Art Gallery Fabrics who provided me with fabric for this tour and Moon Man Printing for the gorgeous sewing panel!

I’m so glad you love the Charlotte Leggings. They are my favorite. I do think the fit comes from the two separate leg pieces. Totally worth the two extra rows of stitching for the fit! That size chart is on point. I definitely make mine off measurements too. Thanks for joining in!
