Cool, Fun, and Flirty: The Laela Jeyne Summer Collection

I am so excited to be a stop on the Laela Jeyne Summer Collection Patterns Tour! I first started using Laela Jeyne Patterns for myself last fall. Some of the items I have made from Laela Jeyne Patterns have been my most worn items in our closets! Even though this summer has been super busy for us, I could not resist signing up to share about some of the new patterns!

My new favorite top is the Dahlia Tank Top. It looks like a simple tank, but it is hands-down the best tank top I have made for myself. It is fitted, but not too fitted, and includes pattern pieces for different cup sizes! This is HUGE for me. I can print just my size and cup size pieces and get a tank that fits perfectly on the first try! I sewed a size Large B-Cup. (Sewing note: sewing cup sizes are different than bra cup sizes – make sure you measure and go by the chart!) I love sewing clothing for myself from my large stash of cotton lycra knits. My tank is made with 1/4″ knit stripe by Riley Blake Designs. You can grab some here!

I only made one modification – I added 2″ length at the lengthen line – next time I will probably only add 1.5″ and I might grade out a bit more at the waist. I do wish I had lengthened my neckband a little because my cotton lycra has excellent recovery and puckered a bit.

I wanted to get in the spirit for the 4th of July so I also used these navy dots by Riley Blake to make a Rose Circle Skirt.  This is a fantastic pattern and well-worth adding to your stash.

  1. multiple sizes based on waist measurement (sizes 22-52 in) and with instructions on where to measure depending on where you want your skirt to sit.
  2. Multiple style options for quarter circle (pictured), half-circle, and full-circle. You can get the fullness and look you want in one pattern.
  3. Several length cut-lines ranging from 12″-36″. I am a tall daughter of a tall woman and I’m raising my own three tall little women. It is so helpful to know the finished length of a skirt before you make it.
  4. Multiple waistband options. I used a knit waistband since I made mine to fit at my natural waist. (I don’t usually go for knit waistbands at my hips since they fall down on my narrow hips). I have had no issues with my skirt staying up!

Because I was going for a fun and flirty holiday themed look, I used a quarter circle (to save on fabric) and chose a 20″ length. I also cut my skirt to sit at my natural waist. It is a sporty length for the upcoming holiday weekend.

I have plans to make many more Dahlia Tanks and Rose Circle Skirts. If I make two to go together again, I would most likely skip adding length to my tank.  While I did not have a chance to grab pictures, the Dahlia also pairs very nicely with jeans and shorts. I especially love the flattering curved hemline.

Thank you to Laela Jeyne Patterns for inviting me to participate on this tour. Make sure you stop by and visit the other fabulous makers! Of course, you also want to check out the entire Summer Collection, too! Happy Summer!

You did a great patriotic look. I’m thinking there is maybe a holiday tour happening right now you could link up to as well. 🙂 Two birds, one stone is always a win.

Thanks for joining in. Your combo is great.

Love the fit on the tank top! How hard is it to get that stripe to be even on the neckband?
