Lessons Learned during PR&P

A few days ago, I started a link-up for Project Run and Play contestants from Season 12 (and anyone else who sewed along) to share what we learned during the contest.  I think all of us are getting back into the groove of regular sewing and blogging after the intense competition. Tami from SewSophieLynn and Miranda from Inspinration have both shared their lovely thoughts in our “Things I Learned During PRP” Link-Up that is open through tomorrow! Continue Reading

Love Notions Celebration: Time to Cartwheel!

Hi Love Notions fans! I am so excited to be on the final day of the Love Notions Spectacular Blog Tour! I am honored to be blogging alongside some of my favorite ladies in the sewing blog land and I’ve enjoyed seeing the new ideas they are sharing with us! The mini-hack I am sharing with you today is so simple, but I hope it inspires you to look at the Cartwheel Collection at Love Notions! The Cartwheel Collection was actually one of my first PDF pattern purchases, and in a household with three girls it is a big hit! The Collection contains tee, dress, skirt, capri, shorts, and tunic. It is a great set for someone new to knits who wants to have a quick, simple, and cute sewing project! Last April, I tested the Summer Caye shorts and pants on my sweet little daughter (can you believe how much this kid has changed over the last 6 months?!). Since I used a plain tencel twill for the shorts, I really wanted a handmade shirt to complete the look. This was the first time I made a full-coverage back Cartwheel Tee! I have since made several and wanted to share the so simple and quick way I set up my pattern to do it. First, print your pattern. I love that Love Notions offers layered printing. I only have a black and white laser printer so it is so easy to just the print the sizes I am using! Cut out the Cartwheel Collection Tee/Dress Back Top piece. Next, find your Tee Back piece. You will need to flip your back piece so the text side is down and match it along the armscye on the Tee Back piece. There will be a small gap between your pattern pieces on the edge that is cut on the fold. Use a ruler to draw a line connecting the two pieces so the fold line is straight and even. Your modified pattern piece is ready!  You will cut out the rest of your pattern pieces as directed and start following the pattern tutorial at Step 3 on p. 6 of the Cartwheel Collection. I have now made several of these full-coverage back Cartwheel tees because they fit my daughter well, and they are very quick. This coral tee is my most recent one that I paired with the newly released Skater Skirt with sewn in Leggins’ (free!). Make sure you join the Love Notions Fan Group on Facebook to get the coupon codes to access the new skater skirt for free! This entire outfit took me less than two hours to sew! I am so thrilled with the new skater skirt (which includes instructions for sewing in the free Leggins’ pattern). I love that the Cartwheel Tee can complete just about any look so make sure you do some shopping at Love Notions during the big 50% off sale and create your own stylish combination for your kid, or check out the Love Notions women’s patterns and sew something special for yourself! Love Notions

Things we learned during Project Run and Play!

The Sew and Tell Project team is still smiling from our “tied for second place” finish in Season 12 of Project Run and Play! Congratulations to Jessica from Gracious Threads for her well-deserved first-place finish!

We enjoyed making new friends during the competition and thought it would be fun to link-up with one another to share some of our “behind the scenes” Project Run and Play sewing stories. Since we are all busy bloggers (some of us still catching up from the month-long sewing spree) we have opened a link-up to share our stories as we are able! If you sewed along during Season 12 feel free to join in sharing your stories as well! We are so thankful to the team at Project Run and Play for organizing this friendly competition to inspire all of us who love to sew! Continue Reading

My Review of Patternless Sewing: MODstyle

I am so excited to share a special book review with you today! I was delighted to receive a copy of Patternless Sewing: MODstyle by designer and author Patty Young from C&T Publishing. Patty is one of my favorite textile designers, and I love following her blog to get the latest on new pattern releases from her pattern company Modkid.

First I want to give you a short review of the book before I tell you about my first project. You can grab a copy here!

Fly away with me with PAB!

I tested the newly-released Wonderland Wings by Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop. The Wonderland Wings pattern includes three unique wing shapes: butterfly, fairy, and dragon. Testers also used the shapes to make angel and bat wings! This is a very versatile pattern to be used for Halloween or everyday dress up. I finished each pair in about 2 hours from cut to finish. The wings are made with 2 layers of very stiff interfacing to give them a nice shape! I was intimidated at first to sew with two layers of Peltex 71F on my little machine, but the tutorial includes tips and suggestions to make it easier. Continue Reading

The Mama Ava by Made for Mermaids!

After spending most of my August unable to sew, I sure have been making up for lost time! This past week I tested the newly-released Mama Ava from Made for Mermaids! I always love testing a good wardrobe builder. And it’s been even more fun since I got my new serger! It’s a 5 thread and it’s made my sewing time so much more productive!

This was a bit of a sewing challenge for me. Not because it is a difficult pattern – no, it comes together very quickly! It was a challenge because drapey knits are recommended for it and I am a cotton Lycra girl. I have miles of gorgeous cotton Lycra prints  in my studio, but didn’t want it to end up too boxy per the designer’s recommendation. Continue Reading

Mother Teresa Quotes!

Billions of people all over the world know of Mother Teresa. The petite Yugoslavian-born woman was a well-known figure in my childhood. She answered God’s call to found her own religious order, the renowned Missionaries of Charity. To this day the Missionaries of Charity are dedicated to serving the poorest of the poor all over the world. For her work with the poor, sick, and dying, in the slums of India, she would earn praise and accolades – including the Nobel Peace Prize. You can read more about Mother Theresa here. Canyon Cardigan by Love Notions

Hello lovelies!

Fall is in the air where I live. It is still warm during the day but the nights are crisp and the apples are falling off of our tree. I find myself still wanting to dress cool for the day, but then needing layers for temperature changes. Keeping that in mind, I decided to sign up to test the Canyon Cardigan as one of members of Love Notions Promo Team. Testing with the Love Notions crew is always so fun! There is so much style in this friendly group. Continue Reading

A {birthday girl} Mic Drop Tote!

This is my middle daughter AKA Middle Miss. She is filled with spunk and whimsy and is probably my greatest enabler when it comes to sewing. When she was a toddler she would wander into my fabric cabinet and ask me to make her a “pwetty dwess.” She still LOVES to give me inspiration pictures and shop for fabric with me, but as I’ve started to have more children and more demands on my time, she doesn’t always get exactly what she wants when she wants it.
