Welcome back to the Sew and Tell Project! We’ve been a bit quiet over here on the blog over the holidays. I’m back today with a new dress from Simple Life Pattern Company which has quickly become my favorite for my little girl.
The Aria and Baby Aria are knit dresses with a fun back addition–a panel including bows. It’s such a fun, simple twist to add fun and interest to the back of a knit dress.
I’m back with another great baby pattern from Peek a Boo Pattern Shop! This week’s new release is the Houdini Bib. Miss M is almost 8 months old and in the last few weeks has really discovered her love of solids! However, her second love is trying to eat her bib while I’m trying to feed her. The Houdini Bib has solved my problem.
The Houdini Bib has two versions: a basic bib with just the strap around the neck, and the Houdini version which has straps that criss cross in the back and snap below the arms. It is also available in three sizes: baby, toddler, and preschooler. After I made these, an inch was added to the length of the Houdini straps to provide a bit more room for movement.
I have been loving getting to sew little girl outfits after sewing for 4 boys. Sewing ruffles and dresses and pink has been such a blast! I’m quickly realizing that while I love dresses on my little girl, onesies are so much more functional because they don’t lift up showing a baby’s little belly especially in these cold winter months here in the Upper Midwest. However, I love the look of dresses so I started thinking about how to solve my problem, and I decided to mash the Peek a Boo Pattern Shop Gloria dress with the Eeny Meeny Miny Moe Bodysuit (I’m going to call this the EMMM in the rest of this post). For my mash up, I used Art Gallery Flower Field Bachelorette Knit with the solid Dark Fuchsia knit from Peek a Boo Pattern Shop. I love Amy’s selections of fabrics and know that anything I purchase from there is high quality.

My version is sewn (using double sided, heat sensitive interfacing to hold the layers together, and then top stitching for detail and permanence), but you could easily throw this together with a hot glue gun.

I’m so excited to have a little girl and get to test all the fun dresses and tunics I’ve missed out on with 4 boys. Peek a Boo Pattern Shop has just released the Delaney Dress and Tunic, and I sewed up two tunics for my little girl. The Delaney features a high-low hemline, three sleeve lengths (short, 3/4, and full), a neckband or hood option, and a front pocket.
My first version is a size 6 month long sleeve tunic length without the pocket. I used a panel previously offered at Peek a Boo Pattern Shop. I love the high low hem which adds interest to a basic tunic.
I got the really exciting news about a month ago that I’d been accepted as a Rebecca Page Brand Ambassador. This means that I am compensated with fun, free patterns, and then I get to sew them up and share them with you. Fun, right? I knew that Rebecca Page (formerly Mummykins and Me) was known for well-drafted clothing patterns, but with the name change, she’s moving into different areas. Pattern sizes now range from dolls to newborn to child to tween to teen to adult to plus sized (18″ doll to 5xl). Plus, maybe even more exciting, more crafty-style patterns will begin to find their way into the lineup (such as this Elf and Fairy Crown and Wand). I (Alisha) have been quite quiet over here on the blog for quite a few months. I hope you missed me! I have a wonderful reason for being so quiet. We are expecting baby #5 in about 8 weeks! Right now I have 4 boys, ages 9, 7, 6, and 3, and we are very excited to announce that we are expecting a little girl! It was shocking news that I’m not sure I’ll believe until I actually see her!
Getting to sew little girl clothes has been so much fun! Caroline Hulse of Sew Caroline, a designer for Art Gallery Fabrics, provided me with some beautiful designs from her Chalk and Paint collection to sew up for my new little girl.
Can you really have too many bodysuits for your babies?
That’s a trick question because the answer is no. No you can’t!
Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop is expanding their Lullaby Line with the Cardigan Bodysuit.
This bodysuit (or onesie, if you prefer) has the look of a classic cardigan with the diaper-changing ease of a snap placket at the crotch. The pattern fits sizes newborn through 4t, and the newborn size will fit most 18″ dolls. There is an option for a faux undershirt, and a short sleeve or long sleeve with cuffs.
Genie choose to make her little man’s with comfy cotton lycra from the Peek-a-boo Pattern Shop. The stripe is from the Knit Basics collection (Yarn Dyed 3/8″ Gray & White Stripe, and it was a lovely fabric. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a bargain line of fabric, but this is a nice weight, soft, and has great recovery. The blue can be found here.
