Today I’m super excited to introduce you to a new dress from The Eli Monster – the Picknick Dress! The Picknick Dress is a perfect summer pattern for all kinds of woven fabrics and can be dressed up or down. Cute little ruffles at the arms and neck, a row of buttons from neck to hem, and a full, twirly skirt – what’s not to love?
It is comfortable and allows for freedom of movement for active little girls. In addition, there are pockets hidden away in the side seams – perfect for collecting flower petals or carrying other small treasures. The back of the dress is simple and ideal for little girls who are bothered by the bulk of buttons or other closures on the back.
Today was such a special day for my oldest. Today along with many of his classmates, he celebrated his First Holy Communion. Our parish celebrates First Communion during the normal weekend masses, so some of his classmates celebrated last weekend as well. If you’ve been following our blog, you already know that I made his tie from my wedding dress shawl. I documented that process here.
It was a beautiful mass with 19 First Communicants. My oldest helped carry up the gifts, and it was wonderful to see the joy and reverence on his face as he participated in this wonderful gift.

Eleri and I have a treat of a top and dress pattern to share with you today. The Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop is releasing the Flutterby Top and Dress pattern and it is on sale for $6.75 today (4/14). The pattern features a raglan style top or dress with flutter sleeves in sizes 3 mo to 12.
You probably know by now that Eleri loves all the knit dresses from the Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop. Usually, Eleri sews her child’s ready-to-wear size with some added length. Because of the deep armscye and raglan ruffle neck, it is imperative to pay close attention to the size chart on this sew. Eleri usually sews a 10 for her Big Miss, but sized down to an 8 for this test and got perfect results.
I am a Roman Catholic mother. The sacraments are where I experience some of my deepest moments as a mother. I have stood at the baptismal font with all of my children and have had them baptized into our Catholic faith as newborns. I have waited nervously outside of the confessional while my two oldest children complete the Sacrament of Penance for the first time and celebrated with a gift of candy since God’s mercy is so sweet!
When I am shopping for patterns for my 4 boys, I look for patterns that offer a lot of versatility and options. The Peek a Boo Pattern Shop Boardwalk Tee is just that. You’ll probably notice that many of the clothes I sew for my boys are from PAB, and there’s a good reason for that. Amy’s patterns are easy to use and provide professional finishes. Her pictures and step by step instructions have made it easy for me to improve my sewing skills!
Who here loves Pinterest?!? I love collecting all the beautiful pictures and looking back over them for inspiration. At one point, in my early Pinterest days, I made a point of trying one new project a week. Felt donuts, detailed quiet books, clothes for my baby, new recipes…. so many fun things! Hello, all! While I’ve been able to collaborate on a few posts and help with some things in the background, due to my pregnancy and now newborn, this is my first solo post! I couldn’t be more delighted to be here. My husband and I have been married for fifteen years and have three beautiful children. Our girls are 12.5 and 6, and our son is brand spankin’ new. I have been sewing and crafting since I was a little girl and am looking forward to sharing more projects with our readers.

Alisha, Genie, Emily, and I have all challenged each other to sew swimsuits for ourselves and/or our kids and we are hoping to inspire you to join us!
I was chosen to test the side pocket option with the crossover hood. Both my 8 and 5 year olds love the side pockets! The crossover hood and raglan sleeves and add an exciting twist to a standard hooded sweatshirt. For my older son’s sweater, I used navy cotton/lycra and kelly green interlock. The weight of the interlock added a nice stability to the hood.

My oldest son makes his First Communion in a few short weeks, and I wanted to make him something that he could have as a keepsake of this special sacrament. After thinking through my options (because it’s much harder for me to think of things to make for boys!) I chose to make him a tie from the shawl of my wedding dress. I am so thankful I had my wedding dress preserved after our wedding 10 years ago. I removed my shawl and was able to steam the wrinkles from it before I cut out the tie.
